tables for coursesRecently awarded 4 stars by Golf Digest's 2000-2001 Places to Play (We began Places to Play in 1963. For the latest edition, regionalized ballots were distributed to Golf Digest’s 1.55 million subscribers. They were asked to play the public and resort courses in their own areas and rate them on a scale of one to five, taking into account five criteria: the overall golf experience, the value for their money, the standard of service at the facility, the conditioning of the course and the normal pace of play for an 18-hole round of golf. Some 20,000 responded in the ratings of more than 6,000 courses.
The top 200 courses in the Value, Service, Conditioning, and Pace of Play categories have received special designations in the book for their outstanding achievement. The balloting of the overall golf experience criteria was translated into course ratings measured by stars, from one to five, with five being the highest rating.)
